AND MORE: James Finch apparently has an agreement with Johnny Benson to pilot his cars in at least 8 and perhaps as many as 13 Nextel Cup races this season. Phoenix Racing Team Manager Marc Reno says Joe Ruttman is testing their #09 Dodges because Benson’s agreement wasn’t reached prior to testing at Daytona in time to change seats which were fitted for Ruttman. Meanwhile, Finch’s Busch Series team is driver shopping after David Stremme, who is under contract with Ganassi Racing, was moved over to Braun Racing. Reno says Ganassi Racing decided it was not in their budget to further support Finch and the Yellow Transportation Dodge team. Reno said “To be pure and simple about it, if they’re not gonna put support behind him (Finch) we’re not gonna train their rookie for them…we’re gonna put a veteran in, and race.” Reno says Benson could run their BGN cars as well and John Andretti is also in the mix. Also, the door could be open for Jimmy Spencer to re-join the team and Reno plans to talk with his former driver. Spencer, who won races in the Yellow Dodge, was forced out when Ganassi decided to back Finch’s efforts. Spencer says right now his plans are to “keep going on” with the 7-car and owner Jim Smith and “see how far we can go, I guess.”(PRN’s Garage Pass Radio Show)(1-14-2004)
