#18-Chad Chaffin pit early and out of sequence because the wrong tire was put on the right front of his #18 Dickie’s Dodge, but when a caution came out during green-flag pit stops late in the race, it was Chaffin who inherited the lead. Despite repeated attempts by #14-Rick Crawford to get by, Chaffin held him off by .382 seconds following a final five-lap shootout to claim the win in Friday’s MBNA America 200 at Dover International Speedway. It’s Chaffin’s first series win in 38 starts. His previous best finish this season came at Atlanta, where he was ninth. “This has been a long time coming. At this top level, there were a lot of people who said, ‘Chad is pretty good driver, but I don’t think he can win.’ But Bobby Hamilton (truck owner), he believed in me,” Chaffin said. “Dodge kicked up their support this year even though we didn’t win last year, so they didn’t give up on me. I just didn’t know if this day would ever come.” #21-Hank Parker Jr. was third in his best finish of the season; #42-Mike Skinner was fourth; and #52-Ken Schrader completed the top five. Series points leader #46-Dennis Setzer was 18th. He leads #99-Carl Edwards by 20 points. Crawford remains third, but moved to within 56 of Setzer. The race was slowed six times by caution for 42 laps. There were four lead changes among four drivers.(ThatsRacin.com)
