Drivers, DJs To Race Segway’s UPDATE:

The rubber hits pit road before Friday’s Emerson Radio 250 when Turner Network Television (TNT) and Chevrolet will partner for the inaugural “TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge” prior to the start of the Emerson Radio 250. The first of its kind, the challenge will partner TNT NASCAR announcers and Chevy NASCAR drivers with select local-market radio DJs to race Segways (motorized human transporters) down the track’s pit road. Emceed by TNT announcer Benny Parsons, the challenge will include the following seven teams: TNT announcer Wally Dallenbach and a DJ representing WKHK-FM (Richmond, VA) Chevy NASCAR driver Brian Vickers and a DJ representing WKLS-FM (Atlanta, GA) Chevy NASCAR driver Scott Riggs and a DJ representing WUBE-FM (Cincinnati, OH) Chevy NASCAR driver Jeff Burton and a DJ representing WFMS-FM (Indianapolis, IN) Chevy NASCAR driver Dave Blaney and a DJ representing WSIX-FM (Nashville, TN) Chevy NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer and a DJ representing WDSY-FM (Pittsburgh, PA) Chevy NASCAR driver Ron Hornaday and a DJ representing WQDR-FM (Raleigh, NC) Each race participant will individually race on a “NASCAR on TNT” branded Segway around an obstacle course of Chevy cars and tires, vying for the fastest time in their heat. Team member scores will be combined to determine the race winners, who will stake claim to year-long bragging rights. Following the race, each participant will autograph a Segway that will be donated to the Victory Junction Gang charity, an official NASCAR charity.(RIR)(9-8-2005)
UPDATE: Ron Hornaday Jr., driver of the #6 GM Goodwrench Chevy in the Truck Series, and Marty the One Man Party, radio DJ for WQDR-FM in Raleigh, N.C., won today’s “TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge” at Richmond International Raceway. The Chevy Truck Series driver and radio DJ were one of seven teams competing in the first annual event where participants race Segways (motorized human transporters) along an obstacle course of Chevy HHRs and tires. Hornaday and Marty the One Man Party beat out the team of Brian Vickers, driver of the #25 GMAC/ditech.com Monte Carlo, and Marc Apple, radio announcer for WKLS-FM in Atlanta during the final heat of competition. Following the event, each of the 14 NASCAR driver and radio DJ participants autographed a Segway that will be donated to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, an official NASCAR charity. Highlights of today’s “TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge” will be broadcast on TNT prior to the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 on Saturday evening.
