Gilliland wins the pole for the Daytona 500:

#38-David Gilliland won the Budweiser Pole for the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway with a speed of 186.320mph for his 2nd career pole and first pole at Daytona. Gilliland’s teammate, #88-Ricky Rudd will start 2nd, on the outside pole. The rest of the top-five are #40-David Stremme, #42-Juan Montoya and #6-David Ragan, but only the top two drivers are guaranteed their spots after qualifying Sunday. Three drivers not in the top-35 owners points [from 2006] are guaranteed to make the Daytona 500: #60-Boris Said, #14-Sterling Marlin and #70 Johnny Sauter. Plus #44-Dale Jarrett is in the race for sure as he is first on the list to use the past champion provisional. #00-David Reutimann was the fastest Toyota, 15th fastest.
