Terry Mayfield, father of Bill Davis Racing driver Jeremy Mayfield, passed away last night at the age of 56. A native of Owensboro, Ky., Mayfield made his home in Mooresville, North Carolina. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. “Gail and I, as well as everyone at Bill Davis Racing, offer our condolences to Jeremy on the passing of his father. He was born on January 27, 1951 in Owensboro , KY to the late Zeb and Lillian Davis Mayfield. He was employed with Mayfield Motor Sports and loved to watch his son race. Slick was very gifted with his hands and had a deep love hunting, fishing and for animals, especially his cat Black Jack. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Rymer Mayfield; sons, Jeremy Allen Mayfield and wife Shana of Catawba, NC and John Wesley Harding of Statesville, NC; daughter, Amy Pooser of Owensboro, KY; brothers, Lawes, David and Ernie Mayfield, all of Owensboro; sisters, Mona Clark, Jackie Mayfield, Sharon Lockston and Sue Wedding, all of Owensboro; and 1 grandchild. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob and Barry Mayfield. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, September 9, 2007 in the chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with Rev. Max Helton officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service, from 1-3 PM. Memorials may be made to the Catawba County Humane Society, PO Box 63, Hickory, NC 28603.
