Danica Patrick could win her stock car debut at Saturday’s ARCA race at Daytona and still decide to bypass the Nationwide Series opener there a week later. “(Finishing high) doesn’t mean that I’m ready for that race,” the IndyCar star said Wednesday. “Maybe I didn’t get put in very many tough situations.” Patrick joked that she was giving herself “a get out of jail free card.” She won’t commit to any particular yardstick of what it would take to convince her to make her NASCAR debut in the second-tier series Feb. 13 at Daytona International Speedway. “That way, whatever I decide, nobody can argue with me,” Patrick said. Where she finishes is less important than which new challenges she faces – and how she handles them. Otherwise, Patrick will make her debut the following week in Fontana, Calif.(Associated Press)(2-3-2010)
UPDATE: Danica Patrick says she won’t announce a decision until Monday concerning whether she will make her NASCAR debut in the Nationwide Series season-opening DRIVE4COPD 300 on Feb. 13 at Daytona International Speedway. Patrick is competing in the Automobile Racing Club of America event Saturday at DIS and after her performance there, she will decide whether she will drive the JR Motorsports #7 car for the Nationwide event at Daytona or make her debut in the Feb. 20 race at Auto Club Speedway in California. She wants to see how she does and how comfortable she is in the car during the ARCA event.(Scene Daily)(2-4-2010)
