More than 200 golfers participated in the inaugural “Onion Slice Open,” hosted by Todd and Janet Bodine at the Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountaintop. The 27-hole public course yielded to some very good golf as many teams in the inaugural Onion Slice Open scramble format shot 56, with the winning team led by Mike Skinner shooting a 19 under par 53. The golf event was the largest fundraising golf tournament in Blue Ridge Trail history and more than $68,000 in proceeds will be invested in services to help pediatric patients at the Allied Services John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine who are treated for brain injuries and other neurological impairments. More than $11,000 was raised at the post-golf auction which included autographed sports memorabilia.(PoconoRecord.com)(8-9-2010)
