Aflac and Edwards to run Childhood Cancer Awareness scheme:

  • Aflac, the number one provider of supplemental insurance in the United States, and Carl Edwards, NASCAR driver of the #99 Aflac Ford, are teaming up to support National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 2011. Edwards is scheduled to visit with children and families at the Aflac Cancer Center in Atlanta on Friday, and unveil the specially painted car he will drive during Sunday’s race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway as part of the company’s Friends of a Feather campaign. In addition to the visit to the Aflac Cancer Center by Carl Edwards, Aflac will officially unveil its new Childhood Cancer Awareness plush Aflac Duck, which will go on sale soon at www.aflac.com/friends. All of the proceeds from this special new duck will go to the Aflac Cancer Center along with a $20 donation from Aflac for every duck sold.
The car unveiled for Sunday’s race is designed with duck feathers painted from front to back inscribed with the names of some of the unsung heroes who have gone the extra mile for 12 year old Aflac Cancer Center patient Hannah Layfield. Hannah, like so many children facing cancer, has an army of people that have stood by her and her family during her multiple bouts with Leukemia. During Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Aflac wants to recognize the many people who come together to support children and families battling cancer as part of the Friends of Feather campaign. “Driving for Aflac is always special, but racing for kids like Hannah and the many people at the Aflac Cancer Center who support her takes it to another level,” Carl Edwards said. “When I visit the Aflac Cancer Center it reminds me that courage isn’t about driving a racecar, it’s about brave young kids staring down cancer, determined to win. I’d love to win in their honor on Sunday night.”(Aflac PR), see an image of the car on the #99 Team Schemes page.(8-30-2011)
