Kurt Busch will be driving in his final race for Phoenix Racing in Friday, July 5th ‘s Subway Firecracker 250. Phoenix Racing, Hendrick Automotive Group, Kurt Busch, and the Armed Forces Foundation have partnered to bring the City Chevrolet paint scheme, made famous in the Hollywood blockbuster /Days of Thunder/, back to the track for one more race. The car will feature the Armed Forces Foundations logo on the rear quarter panels to draw attention to their /Help Save Our Troops /campaign, which focuses on the invisible wounds of war such Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). More than 600,000 veterans suffer from PTSD and one veteran commits suicide every 65 minutes, up from one every 80 minutes the previous year. Additionally, more than 230,000 service members and veterans have been diagnosed with a TBI since 2001. This special paint scheme caps off the Armed Forces Foundations activities for National PTSD Awareness Month, which is recognized every June with June 27th being National PTSD Awareness Day. City Chevrolet was the primary sponsor on driver Cole Trickles Chevrolet Lumina in the feature film Days of Thunder. Rick Hendrick, Chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, served as a technical advisor on the film, which follows a fledgling race team and rookie driver trying to succeed in NASCAR. Randy Quaids character in the film, Tim Daland, is patterned after Hendrick. Trickle was portrayed by actor Tom Cruise. Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet is Hendrick Automotive Groups flagship store. Located just east of downtown Charlotte, N.C., the dealership was one of Hendricks first. It opened under Hendrick management in 1978 and recently celebrated 75 years in business.
