Darlington Raceway collects thousands of food items during drive:

Due to the overwhelming generosity of its local community, Darlington Raceway collected thousands of food items and cash donations during its two-week long can food drive. The drive collected over 3,000 non-perishable items and over $1,100 in monetary donations. The food and monies will benefit two local food pantries, The Lord Cares of Darlington and Harvest Hope of the Pee Dee. The donations were delivered to both organizations on Thursday, Nov. 21 with the help of Darlington Raceway president Chip Wile and members of the track staff. This can drive was unique in that it celebrated one of college football s biggest rivalries, the University of South Carolina versus Clemson University. USC and Clemson branded barrels were provided during collection times. Fans had the opportunity to place their non-perishable food items in the branded barrel of the team they were rooting for (the game takes place on Nov. 29 in Columbia, S.C.). All cash donations were earmarked for the donors favorite team. After all the food items and cash donations were counted, the winner was the University of South Carolina. Darlington Raceway will now proudly fly the garnet and black flag on racetrack property off of Highway 151 starting this Monday, Nov. 25 for the entire week of the game.
