Gordon makes emotional return to first race track:

#24- Jeff Gordon returned home as both the conquering hero and the retiring hero Saturday. Gordon made an emotional return to‚ Roy Hayer Memorial Speedway, the quarter-midget track where he began a racing career that will come to a close with the end of this Sprint Cup season. Gordon showed his wife, Ingrid, and his children, Ella and Leo, the groove in the hard-packed dirt track where his Hall of Fame career began as a 5-year-old. Former competitors, their parents and numerous track officials from Gordon’s days at the tiny track returned Saturday to share the day with Gordon, who spent much of his time signing autographs, posing for photographs and listening to old friends tell stories of the days when they raced each other as first-graders. The event, attended by several hundred people, was another in a series of nostalgic days for Gordon as writes a finish to his driving career while also pursuing another Cup championship. Later in the day, Gordon made an appearance at a school he attended as a child. Then it was off to Vancouver for a camping trip with his family.
