  • 2nd Morgan McClure car: Loy Allen is testing for the Morgan McClure team(#4 Kodak Chevy) at Greenville-Pickens(SC) with regular driver Bobby Hamilton in preparation for the upcoming Martinsville and Talladega races. The way things look right now, they might run a second car at Talladega with Loy Allen as the driver(Morgan McClure PR)(4-4-2000)
  • Musgrave Info correction: The Ted Musgrave site is reporting that they- “are hoping for an announcement within the next two weeks” on Musgraves plans for the future. Also of note, Musgrave has not worked with the #32 PPI Racing team and driver Scott Pruett since he spotted for them at Daytona(4-4-2000)
  • Shav Honored: Shav Glick, motorsports writer for the Los Angeles Times, was honored at the Times’ annual anniversary celebration, see full story at NOL(4-4-2000)
  • Did ya Know? Three drivers collected their first Winston Cup starts at Martinsville: Dale Jarrett (4/29/84 – started 24th and finished 14th), Mike Skinner (4/27/86 – started 27th and finished 22nd) and Stacy Compton (4/21/86 – started ninth and finished 33rd). And….Lee Petty holds the record for the driver that started the farthest back at Martinsville to win a race. He started 24th in the 1959 Virginia 500(Speed Magazine)(4-4-2000)
  • Get Well: Walter Ballard, who was the 1971 NASCAR Grand National (Now Winston Cup) Rookie of the Year was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident near his home in Charlotte on March 24, 2000. He is still in intensive care at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte. He was the owner of one of the first “CUP” cars that Dale Earnhardt drove(4-4-2000)
  • #36 Crew Chief Change: Richard Lassiter and the #36 Cicci-Welver team have parted ways, no new crew chief has been named for Tim Fedawa(4-4-2000)
  • BACE Engines? hearing that prior to the BGN race at Bristol that Fischer Engineering stopped supplying both of the BACE Motorsports cars (the #33 and #74) their engines. No idea who they are using for engines now(4-4-2000)
  • Bodine out, Gill In: North Georgia Automobile Dealer Billy Ballew announced Wednesday that veteran short track driver Bobby Gill would take the wheel of the #15 Billy Ballew Motorsports Ford F-150 for the NAPA 250 CTS race at Martinsville on April 8. The Billy Ballew Motorsports entry has competed in all four CTS events this season, Geoffrey Bodine drove in the series opener at Daytona until he was sidelined midway through the event in a spectacular accident. Bodine’s son Barry Bodine took the wheel for the next three races, fulfilling a four-race sponsorship deal with Line-X Quality Bedliners and Miccosukee Indian Gaming. “Bobby Gill has been very helpful to the Billy Ballew Motorsports team throughout the course of preseason testing. I promised him that we would put him behind the wheel if we did not extend our current sponsorship arrangement with Line-X, the Miccosukee Indians and the Bodine family” Ballew said. “We have made every effort to secure sponsorship that would allow Barry Bodine to stay in the # 15. I cannot say enough about how I feel about the Bodine family and their commitment to this team. We will continue to work with both Geoffrey and Barry but I thought that I owed Bobby Gill this chance.” Gill has most recently driven in the Hooters ProCup Series winning that series most recent event this past weekend in St. Augustine, Florida. In the course of the 1999 Hooters ProCup season Gill posted an impressive record of 5 wins, 14 top five finishes and 19 top ten finishes. Billy Ballew Motorsports is actively seeking sponsorship and will continue its involvement in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on a race by race basis(Team PR)(4-4-2000)
