- Hamlin’s rehab on schedule, expects to race Saturday: #11-Denny Hamlin’s rehabilitation of his left knee, which underwent surgery a week ago to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, remains on schedule and should allow him to compete in Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway. “It’s painful, as anyone who has had this surgery or any similar surgery can tell you, but I am working hard to get back my full range of motion and get back to where I need to be,” Hamlin said in a news release. Dr. Patrick Connor of OrthoCarolina in Charlotte performed the surgery last Wednesday. Dr. Bill Heisel, who assisted in the procedure, told ESPN.com the knee should be “pretty normal” by the time Hamlin got to Phoenix. Heisel added that Hamlin shouldn’t be restricted from using his left leg to clutch or brake as long as there was no abnormal swelling. Casey Mears is on standby in case Hamlin has to come out of the car. Hamlin, who is 15th in points after his win at Martinsville before the Easter break, is expected at the very least to start the race in order to collect full points for the finish.(ESPN.com)(4-7-2010)

- Butler suffers bizarre injury after freak incident in Nashville: At first, a punctured tire on the first lap of the Nashville 200 Truck Series race at Nashville Superspeedway didn’t seem like a big deal for Rick Ware Racing driver Brett Butler. But a bizarre injury made it a big deal for the 24-year-old driver. When the tire deflated, it blew out part of the crush panel in the floorboard of his truck and fiberglass from the tire got into Butler’s helmet cooling system, sending fiberglass into his face. Butler drove the rest of the race with his helmet shield open to help cool his face, which was cut and scratched from the fiberglass. He was also breathing carbon monoxide. Butler was treated in the infield medical center after the race, where medical personnel took fiberglass out of his face and eyes and treated him for carbon monoxide poisoning. He said he was given four different sets of eye drops that he used for the next two days. Butler said he will be ready for the May 2 Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. “I’m fine right now,” Butler said. “We pretty much got everything taken care of in the infield care center.”(SceneDaily.com)(4-7-2010)
