- Cingular Jacks: Taking a cue from college football, a round white decal with the Cingular Jack will be applied to the #31 Team Cingular Pit Crew helmets for each pit stop under 12.99 seconds throughout the season. Heading to Texas the pit crew has already earned nine “Jacks.”(RCR)(4-14-2005)
- No Cowboy’s/NASCAR Clash in Nov. at Texas: Texas Motor Speedway won’t have to battle the Cowboys for fans this fall. The Cowboys have an open date Nov. 6, the date of TMS’ long-awaited second Nextel Cup race, the Dickies 500. Cowboys officials said the scheduling is a coincidence. Regardless of the reason, TMS officials were overjoyed after the NFL schedule was released Wednesday. The absence of a Cowboys game probably ensures at least a near-capacity crowd.(Dallas Morning News)(4-14-2005)
- Burton talks about TV Responsibility: Jeff Burton told “Sirius Speedway” (MRN/Sirius Satelite Radio) Wednesday that while TV networks bear some share of responsibility for televising incidents like the one that caused NASCAR to fine driver Shane Hmiel last week, the ultimate responsibility still lies with the drivers themselves. “This stuff happens on the spot, without you knowing you’re on TV,” he said. I have an in-car camera every week, and if some driver rolls by and gives me the finger n national TV, is that his fault? Is he going to get penalized? We have to hold ourselves to a high standard, and I support NASCAR in its efforts to clean things up. But where does it stop? The networks are the backup, backup, backup plan. They need to help keep things off TV that they don’t want their viewers to see. But it’s our responsibility as drivers not to put them in that position. - Vickers learning a new language: #25-Brian Vickers this week participated in the first of his many upcoming Spanish lessons. The Thomasville, N.C., native had his initial tutorial with Berlitz International, a company renowned for its language instruction. Vickers is working to complete the first level of proficiency (10 courses), which should take approximately seven weeks.(HMS)(4-14-2005)

The check presentation will take place in the #7 garage at Texas Motor Speedway, Friday at 2 p.m. The donation will fund the university’s implementation of The Century Council’s Alcohol 101 PlusTM education program and related alcohol education activities.(RGM)(4-14-2005)
- Norris leaves Penske?: hearing #12 Penske Racing car chief, Chad Norris, has left the team and has assumed the crew chief job with Matt Kenseth’s #17 Busch Series team. Former crew chief for Kenseth [Busch], Charles “Cully” Barraclough left to take the #20 Busch Series crew chief gig.(4-14-2005)
- Hmiel wins the pole at Texas: #32-Shane Hmiel won the pole for the O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway with a speed of 189.840mph. The rest of the top-10 are: #8-Martin Truex Jr., #60-Carl Edwards, #44-Justin Labonte, #9-Mark Martin, #33-Tony Stewart, #47-Jon Wood, #66-Greg Biffle, #20-Denny Hamlin and #1-Johnny Sauter. Four drivers failed to make the race: #43-Aaron Fike; #7-Mark Green; #23-Shawna Robinson [crash]; #57-Kyle Busch [crash].
