April 24, 2000

  • #33 Special Paint Scheme: Akzo Nobel Coatings has been the official paint supplier to Andy Petree Racing since Andy purchased the team from Leo Jackson. The paint on the #33 Chevy that Joe Nemechek will drive in the NAPA Auto Parts 500 at the California Speedway is a special effects version of Sikkens Autobase basecoat. Manufactured by Akzo Nobel Coatings, it was developed in conjunction with Flex Products, Inc. and utilizes their ChromaFlair Light Interference Pigments. The paint appears to change color depending on the angle from which it is viewed. This new Sikkens Autobase basecoat will be available in the Fall of 2000. The scheme will also be used at Sears Point in June(Andy Petree PR) See images of the car on the Paint Schemes page(4-24-2000)
  • Guess Melling Racing’s new #: A fan with the right guess will win a trip to a driving school from racingschools.com, and another good guesser will be an honorary member of the Melling Racing pit crew at the August Winston Cup race at Michigan Speedway. Here’s the deal… In the next few weeks, NASCAR will assign the Melling Team a new number for the 2001 season (remember that Mark Melling gave the #9 to Bill Elliott for Ray Evernham’s new Dodge team). If you can correctly guess the number NASCAR assigns to the team, you could be one of the two lucky winners. We will draw two entries from a pool of all the correct entries, and we will announce who the winners are Friday, June 9th at Michigan Speedway. Complete contest rules are online at Mellingracing.com. You can also find lots of information about Stacy Compton and the Melling team on the site(Melling Racing PR in part)(4-24-2000)
