- Wally Dallenbach conceded that he keeps hearing all the rumors that Felix Sabates might fire him, but says he’s talked with Sabates and he’ll be in the car at least the next two weeks. Sources close to the situation say that Shepherd is under consideration for the Sabates ride. One of the offers Dallenbach has on the table, according to NASCAR sources, is to drive for Richard Childress, who confirms he has been considering a third Winston Cup team. Dallenbach said ‘No comment,’ when pressed about the Childress option. Dallenbach will be testing Mike Skinner’s car for Childress at Sears Point in two weeks.(JournalNow)(4-24-98)
- There is more talk surrounding Wally Dallenbach and his future with Sabco Racing and the 46 First Union Team. Everyone is aware of his qualifying problems and his past performances at the 2.66 mile do not help his chances of keeping the ride very much. - During the qualifying show on ESPN2, Diamond Ridge Motorsports owner Gary Bectel said he has a sponsor watching the team and if the team runs well at Talladega and California, he expects to sign them. No idea who it is.(ESPN2)(4-24-98)
