Q) GIVEN THE NEWS THAT GODADDY IS GOING TO BE LEAVING, HOW DO YOU LIMIT THOSE DISTRACTIONS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT SPONSORS AND WORRYING ABOUT SPONSORS AS YOU CONTINUE TO GO THROUGH THE SEASON? DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE BEST POSSIBLE TIME FOR IT, GIVEN THE RUN OF SUCCESS THAT YOU’VE HAD IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS?
Patrick: “It was good that GoDaddy gave us, as a team, time to find someone else for that role; either someone new or one of my great partners that already exists and wants to step-up. It’s as tolerable as a situation as you can imagine. But for me, it’s a little bit bittersweet. I look at pictures of me in the suit and the pictures of the car and I think about I can’t believe it won’t be the green GoDaddy car anymore. In fact, that’s actually what I said to them on the phone. I spoke to Phil (Bienert, Chief Marketing Officer) and Blake (Irving, Chief Executive Officer) who are in charge of making those big phone calls and making those big decisions. And I said, ‘Are you guys okay that you’re not going to see a green car out there anymore?’ That’s actually what I said to them. But, on the other hand, my relationship with GoDaddy will still continue. It’s just going to look a little bit different from an overall standpoint. I think we’re going to continue on, obviously, with the things that I have been doing for them as of late; more smaller events and more specific events for them as opposed as just trying to get their name out there as they’ve said they have 81 percent brand awareness in America, so the program worked. It worked so well, that they’ve evolved. But I’m glad to still be with them, and I’m glad that they gave us time to find someone else for that position.”
Q) HOW LONG DO YOU FOCUS ON TRYING TO REMAIN AT STEWART-HAAS RACING; AND WHEN DO YOU REALLY START LISTENING AND DISCUSSING OPTIONS WITH OTHER TEAMS?
Patrick: “I really am happy at Stewart-Haas and they’re working hard already to find someone for the new primary position. My team is working to find someone for the new primary position. So, I think at this point in time, we’re moving forward with all those intentions. But I guess it is on some level open season in a lot of areas. So, I don’t think you can ever say never, of course; but I am happy where I’m at right now.”
Q) REGARDING THE TEAM, HOW DO YOU LOOK AT THIS? WHAT KIND OF CONVERSATIONS HAVE YOU HAD WITH TONY STEWART IF YOU WOULD GET A MULTI-FACETED SPONSOR OR IT MIGHT NOT BE AS MUCH MONEY AS GODADDY. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN MAJOR MANAGEMENT COMPANY THAT CAN BE WORKING ON THIS. HOW DOES THAT ALL FIT TOGETHER? WHAT CONVERSATIONS HAVE YOU HAD ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED OR WHAT YOU WANT?
Patrick: “Well, to imagine that this scenario was not possible is a lie, of course. We knew that it was possible that GoDaddy would go away. I think we’re all ready and prepared to move on and to figure out other things. I don’t know exactly. I’m fortunate that I have such great people working around me that they don’t have to let me in on every day-to-day conversation that they have and what’s happening. It’s really only the big things and the things they might need me for. So, I don’t know exactly what conversations have gone on before this happened or right now. But I know that we’re working toward finding sponsors and that includes on my side, so my agent will try as well. It’s a collaborative effort and I know they talk frequently and it’s all to get the #10 car back out on the track.”
Q) WHAT HAVE YOU AND TONY STEWART DISCUSSED?
Patrick: “I haven’t talked to Tony about it yet. I will talk to him and say pretty much what I’ve said to anyone I’ve seen that it happened and I’m sorry this is our new scenario; but on the other hand, GoDaddy has been really great. I say that and it sounds like such a letdown that they’ve been phenomenal. They have been an enormous supporter through every transition. They supported me when I just wanted to run Nationwide to get experience. So, they’ve been great. But it is a new scenario and we’re going to have to figure it out and it’s a challenge, no doubt. Finding primary sponsors is a challenge. But I feel confident that in all the people to find sponsors, I believe in my agent and my team. And we’ll figure it out.”
Q) BEGGARS CAN’T BE CHOOSERS WHEN IT COMES TO A SPONSORSHIP HUNT. BUT YOU COMMAND A BIT MORE SWAY THAN A TYPICAL DRIVER. WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS? IS THERE A DREAM SPONSOR THAT YOU’D LIKE TO HAVE? IS THERE A PARTICULAR CATEGORY THAT YOU WANT?
Patrick: “I am very fortunate that somebody asked me if it’s a matter of just going out and picking your new sponsors or I’ve been able to do that sort of thing. And I have been. I’ve been very fortunate as a brand being able to be somewhat picky about who it is. For me, it will be more about what their plan is and my two cents as to whether or not I think it fits or how I fit in it. You know what I’ve found, is that companies are extremely open to your ideas as a driver or as a personal idea that I believe will work, because in this day and age it’s about authenticity and people can see through it pretty quick and easy. And your personality shines so much better when you’re in a program that is something that you enjoy and that you’re having fun with and that is a part of you. So, I think that we’ve been able to be a little selective. I don’t think it’s so easy as to just say a company and then go get them and have everything you want. We try, no doubt. But I think it’s more about becoming more of the process with the marketing and branding and to make it all work and being a little bit selective. But, yeah, it’s a tougher environment than it’s ever been, so you also have to be open-minded.”(Team Chevy)(5-1-2015) - Careers for Veterans to ride with Keselowski at ‘Dega: Something will be different about Brad Keselowski’s NASCAR Sprint Cup car during GEICO 500 weekend May 1-3 at Talladega Superspeedway. This weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, thanks to a cooperative effort between Miller Lite and Cooper Standard the rear quarter panels of the #2 Ford Fusion will feature CareersForVeterans.org, a veterans initiative created by Cooper Standard, a Brad Keselowski Racing Partner. Miller Lite and MillerCoors have enjoyed a longstanding partnership with Team Penske and Keselowski. Cooper Standard has supported the men and women who serve our country by helping them put their unique skill sets to work when they complete their service. Since the inception of the program in 2014, the company has increased its veterans workforce by 14%. “This is a tremendous opportunity to bring national attention to the Careers For Veterans program and it wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of our longtime partner MillerCoors,” Keselowski said. “There have been some big moments for me at Talladega and hopefully we can add a few more this weekend.”
The high profile platform is a direct result of Cooper Standard’s longtime partnership with Keselowski. Cooper Standard continues its long running relationship with Brad Keselowski Racing in 2015 as primary sponsor of the #29 Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Through Cooper Standard’s relationship with BKR, visibility for the Careers For Veterans program has dramatically increased. The end result has been more veterans gaining employment once they return to civilian life.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway will be named the Careers for Veterans 200 – the second consecutive season the race will be presented by The Cooper Standard Foundation and Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation. The Careers For Veterans 200 further supports Cooper Standard’s mission to bring national attention to the importance of hiring our military veterans.(BKR)(5-1-2015) - Team Penske partners with Avaya: Team Penske announced that it has partnered with Avaya as a team sponsor for the 2015 season in both the Verizon IndyCar Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Simon Pagenaud will pilot the #22 Avaya Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet for at least four Verizon IndyCar Series events in his first season with Team Penske, including the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24. Avaya will also adorn the side of the #2 Ford Fusion driven by Brad Keselowski in the Sprint Cup Series event at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, May 9.
The Avaya partnership was fostered through the established, long-term relationship between Team Penske and HP. Together, Avaya and HP Enterprise Services are delivering infrastructure modernization services, including Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) OnAvaya and Customer Engagement as a Service OnAvaya to help customers rapidly deploy enterprise team and customer engagement solutions as they transition to a “New Style of Business.” As technology continues to revolutionize communications in racing, the partnership between the three organizations is a winning combination for all. The new relationship with Team Penske is the latest sports partnership for Avaya as the company continues to build its brand by working with winning programs – see the full list at www.avayasports.com. Avaya will make its debut in the Sprint Cup Series when the company will be the primary sponsor of the #2 Ford Fusion driven by Keselowski at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night, May 9. Keselowski, the 2012 Sprint Cup Series Champion, will be looking for his second-career Kansas win, with his first coming in 2011. “It’s always great to see global companies come into our sport,” said Keselowski. “We’ll be excited to welcome Avaya to the #2 team that night in Kansas. Our goal is always to go out there and win with all of our partners and it would be great to bring Avaya on board at Team Penske with a trip to Victory Lane in Kansas.”(Team Penske), see an image of the car on the #2 Team Scheme page.(5-1-2015) - Four teams penalized with loss of practice time at Talladega: #4-Kevin Harvick’s team is one of four NASCAR Sprint Cup teams that will lose 15 minutes of practice time this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR announced. The Tommy Baldwin Racing team received a written warning and will be docked 15 minutes of practice time at Talladega. NASCAR’s rule book states that if a team receives two warnings during two consecutive events, it may result in one or more of the following P1 penalties – last choice in selecting pits, reduced practice time, reduced time for qualifying, delay in order of inspection and/or be selected for post-race inspection, among other things. NASCAR also announced that the teams of #98-Josh Wise and #32-Joey Gase (Bobby Labonte will drive the #32 at Talladega) each failed qualifying inspection twice at Richmond and received written warnings.(NBC Sports)(5-1-2015)

To ensure that customers get tickets that are guaranteed to gain admittance, Talladega Superspeedway is encouraging fans to purchase their tickets by calling 1-877-Go2-DEGA, on the track website at www.talladegasuperspeedway.com, or by visiting ticket locations on the track grounds. With the demand for tickets to these premier races continuing to increase yearly, numerous sets of tickets have been lost and replaced as a customer service. Lost or stolen tickets will have invalid bar codes, and will not get the bearer entry to the facility.
In 2014, Talladega created a “kids program” designed to increase family affordability to witness in person the greatest racing on the planet by discounting those admissions by $50. The kids ticket is clearly identified as a “KID’S 12-AND-UNDER TICKET “on the front and is only good for children 12-and-under. Numerous sets of kid’s tickets have been placed on the secondary market and misrepresented as Adult admissions, so please remember that kid’s tickets only allow a child 12-and-under to enter the grandstands. Adult fans trying to enter the facility with a kid’s ticket will only gain admittance once they purchase an adult ticket from the Talladega Superspeedway Ticket Office. For ticket information, call 1-877-Go2-DEGA or visit www.talladegasuperspeedway.com.(TSS)(5-1-2015)
