  • Chevy Wants NASCAR to Use Ethanol: One of NASCAR’s top sponsors plans to file a formal petition asking that it join other racing leagues and start using ethanol to power its racecars. The recommendation by General Motors Corp., planned for later this year, comes as NASCAR adjusts to using unleaded gasoline, decades behind the commercial marketplace. GM sponsors 22 NASCAR vehicles under its Chevy nameplate, about half the vehicles that start any given race. It’s been promoting more environmentally friendly fuel for months, and now it plans to proceed with an official presentation to NASCAR ownership.(McClatchy News)(5-5-2007)
  • Mears’ HANS device also cracked after Talladega wreck: #25-Casey Mears says that his HANS Device suffered a minor crack in a crash last week at Talladega. Mears said he didn’t see exactly how it was cracked, but he said that it was in the center area as if the left strap had been tugged hard. Mears wasn’t too concerned with the cracks. "I mean in a hit like that it probably should have. It was hard," he said. He says that the device might still have been safe, but that he and his team opted to go with a new one this week.   • Rain postpones race until Sunday: Steady rain at Richmond International Raceway has postponed the Crown Royal Presents the Jim Stewart 400 at Richmond International Raceway. The race will now be run at 1:00pm/et on Sunday and be broadcast live on Fox. The grandstand gates at the track, along with suites and the TORQUE Club, will open at 10:00 a.m. Sunday. The parking lots will open at 6:30 a.m. Rain stopped long enough during the afternoon for the track to be dried. The race started under a green/yellow and ran 12 laps under caution before being red flagged. Because the race had not run any laps under green, they will restart at lap 1 on Sunday.(5-5-2007)
  • Stewart in NASCAR Control Tower for Busch Race: NASCAR officials invited #20-Tony Stewart to the join them in the control tower Friday night during the Busch race at Richmond. He was not required to attend, but was asked to join NASCAR officials so he could better understand the calling of the races, especially caution calls.(5-5-2007)
