  • The Wood Brothers & Michael Waltrip will be sporting a "Good Will Games ’98" paint scheme for The Winston this year.(5-5-98)
  • When Darrell Waltrip takes the green flag for the Winston, he won’t be wearing the chrome helmet he has sported since 1995. Instead, Waltrip will switch to a Pennzoil yellow and black helmet for the race. Waltrip said he’s making the switch to see if the chrome in the helmet is the culprit for radio interference he has experienced with his Dale Earnhardt Inc. team in recent weeks. Waltrip planned to use the helmet in California, but it couldn’t be ready in time for the race. In addition to losing the chrome helmet, Waltrip will lose the Elvis-like firesuit he wore at last year’s Winston.(Pennzoil)(5-5-98)
  • Sterling Marlin, Kenny Wallace, Jeremy Mayfield and Michael Waltrip will be in Oklahoma City, OK this Friday night(5/8) at the Oklahoma State Fair Speedway in the 2nd Annual ‘Race of Champions’, it’s a 50 lap trophy dash in local racers rides. Ken Schrader, Harry Gant, Brett Bodine and Hut Stricklin raced in the race last July with Schrader winning it.(more info 405-948-6752)(Team Sabco Fan Page)(5-5-98)
  • Greg Sacks will be out of the #98 Thorn Apple Valley Ford until the Pepsi 400 at Daytona and Rich Bickle will continue to drive the car including the Winston.(5-5-98)
  • There is a chance that Steve Park may come back earlier than expected. Park would like to run the New Hampshire and Pocono races and then the Brickyard 400. Not sure how DEI would do this as Darrell Waltrip will be in the car up until the Brickyard 400.(RPM2Nite and TNN’s Raceday(www.country.com))(5-5-98)
  • Mike Skinner and Wally Dallenbach testedg the #31 Lowes Chevy at Sears Point in CA thru Thursday.(NASCAR Online), Jerry Nadeau, Jeff Gordon, Rick Mast, Chad Little, Johnny Benson, Kenny Irwin, Joe Nemechek, David Green and Jeremy Mayfield are also testing at the track.(5-5-98)
  • Despite his victory at California Sunday, Mark Martin’s team had it’s problems in the pits. Team manager, Buddy Parrott accidentally tripped on something in the pits and fell. It is believed he tripped on some wires or cables. Parrot recalls hearing a cracking noise during the fall. As a result of the mishap, Buddy has been diagnosed by the infield care center with broken cartilage and possibly a bruised or cracked rib. Apparently, the injuries didn’t stop Buddy from celebrating with Mark and the team in Victory Lane.(StockCarFans)(5-5-98)
