Shortly before Christmas in 1969, Will Cronkrite experienced the kind of loss no person should ever experience.
His wife, Sandy, their daughter Kelly and an unborn child all died in an automobile accident in Lebanon, Ohio. Shortly thereafter, Cronkrite headed to North Carolina, where he went to work for car owner L.G. DeWitt and driver Benny Parsons.
A few years later, he struck up a friendship with driver Greg Heller. The Dubois, Pennsylvania native was trying his hand at Winston Cup racing … and knew all too well the kind of pain Cronkrite had endured.
