#38-Chandler Smith took the lead following a restart on lap 189 of 200 and went on to win the Black’s Tire 200 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway on Friday. The win was his third of the season, first at Martinsville, and the 10th of his career.
While Smith led the final 11 laps of the race, his teammate, #34-Layne Riggs, dominated most of the event. Riggs led 156 of the 200 laps, sweeping the opening stages. A lane choice for the final restart allowed Smith to take advantage and drive off with the win.
#99-Ben Rhodes finished second, while Riggs finished third.
As Smith was driving into the lead, championship points leader, #11-Kaden Honeycutt, was dropping back in the field. Following the restart, Honeycutt found himself on the outside of a three-wide battle. Contact from rookie pole-sitter #77-Tristan McKee sent him up track, causing him to lose numerous positions. He ended the race 14th. The finishing disparity allowed Riggs to close within 20 points entering the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway next Friday.
#88-Ty Majeski was fourth and McKee, who earlier in the day became the youngest pole winner in NASCAR National Series history at 16 years, 2 months, and 27 days, finished fifth.
#44-Andres Perez De Lara, #18-Tyler Ankrum, #17-Gio Ruggiero, #5-William Sawalich, and #91-Christian Eckes were the remainder of the top-10.
There were seven lead changes among four drivers and nine caution flags for 67 yellow flag laps.
