More Evernham UPDATE: Readers tell me that a Charlotte television station WCNC-TV (Channel 36) cited a source saying that Ray Evernham could wind up with Cal Wells’ new team, but I have not seen it so…. AND a story on Racer Magazine says: A return call from the PR department of Hendrick Motorsports resulted in the statement, Ray Evernham has a contract with us through the year 2006. No mention of what capacity that contract calls for Evernham to serve in was made, nor was any answer given to the question of whether or not anyone at Hendrick expected him to honor that contract — UPDATE: from the ESPN site/John Kernan – Ray Evernham will be Jeff Gordon’s crew chief this weekend at Dover Downs International Raceway. But the partnership that produced three Winston Cup championships may be in its final days. In an interview Thursday with ESPN’s John Kernan, Evernham did not deny reports that he could be leaving Gordon and the Hendrick Motorsports Team. But when asked about reports he could leave as early as this week, Evernham said he would be in Gordon’s pits for Sunday’s MBNA Gold 400.
