Ryan Newman will be testing his #02-Alltel Ford in preparation for the March 10 Aarons 312 Busch Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Jan. 16-Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 9:00am-5:00pm/et. The test session is closed to the public(AMS PR)(1-15-2001)
UPDATE: In his first laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Penske South driver Ryan Newman posted the fastest times of the year, unofficially besting the Busch Series track record with a lap speed of 189.150. The BGN qualifying record is 186.755mph set in 1999 by Dave Blaney. Newman, 22, is running a blended schedule of NASCAR Winston Cup, Busch Series and ARCA events this year and is expected to run a full Winston Cup schedule in 2002 as a teammate to Rusty Wallace(and Jeremy Mayfield). Buddy Baker, the former Winston Cup driver and television commentator, was on hand to coach Newman at the test.(AMS PR)(1-19-2001)
