NASCAR…Go West?

NASCAR…Go West? Bear Stearns, a Wall Street brokerage firm, has just released an interesting business analysis of NASCAR and its future, along with some facts and figures, in a 77-page report. The highlights: NASCAR is oversaturated in the Southeast and needs to move several Winston Cup race weekends to the west, moving dates from Martinsville, Pocono and New Hampshire to Texas, Las Vegas, California and Kansas. NASCAR’s proposed new speedways near New York City (at the Meadowlands) and Denver are “not likely.” Some major NASCAR sponsors are disgruntled. Bottom line, the investment firm has long-term optimism for the sport, but is wary in the short-term.
