Bill Elliott wins at Homestead: #9-Bill Elliott won the Pennzoil Freedom 400 at Homestead, his first win in 226 races (Darlington in the 1994 Southern 500 in the #11 Budweiser Ford) and the first for Ray Evernham as a Team Owner. It was Elliott’s 41st career Winston Cup win. #19-Casey Atwood was leading with a few laps to go, but Elliott caught him and Atwood ended up with his best career finish of 3rd, #15-Michael Waltrip finished 2nd. Points leader #24-Gordon finished 28th and 2nd in points #28-Rudd was 21st, so Gordon failed to clinch the Winston Cup Championship this week.
