Park to test Cup car: Steve Park said Saturday that he will drive a Winston Cup car this week for the first time since suffering a head injury in a crash during a Grand National race at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 1. Park will test at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC this week to measure how well his vision has returned since the crash that ended his 2001 season prematurely. Kenny Wallace finished the season in the #1 Pennzoil Chevys and has been signed by Dale Earnhardt Inc. to drive it in 2002 until Park is ready to return.(ThatsRacin.com/ESPN-AP)(1-20-2002) UPDATE 2: Rain delayed Steve Park’ plans to test a stock car last Thursday, but crew chief Paul Andrews was optimistic after observing Park’ progress behind the wheel of a roadster and a Legends car earlier in January. “It wasnt a big deal,” Andrews says. “We just wanted to see how consistent he could be, if he could turn sideways and whether the motion would make him dizzy. Is he ready for Daytona? Probably not. But it’ the first step of many to get him back into racing form.” Andrews says Park will try to test a stock car again this week.(Sporting News)(1-28-2002)
