Sad News: Stephen Cothran, a short track racer from Loganville, GA, died Wednesday at Grady Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in a crash at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton last Saturday. Witnesses said Cothran’s Modified Ministock car collided with the car driven by Chris Huff, then struck the concrete retaining wall, driver’s side first. Cothran, 37, suffered several broken bones and a head injury. Cothran is thought to be the first driver to die from a crash at the three-eighths- mile oval. Lanier’s track manager Stan Narrison said Cothran, who owned his own business, leaves behind a wife and three children. “He was a hard-working guy with three young babies,” Narrison said. “We’ll have to be a family to his family.”(Atlanta Journal Constitution)(6-6-2002)
