We thought we had a problem and took the engine out, explained Doug Yates of his Robert Yates Racing #88 teams recent loss of a motor to NASCAR during the The Winston weekend when the team believed there was an engine problem that warranted removal. NASCAR took the engine because it was not removed following the rules, not because the engine was illegal. We thought we had an issue, but it turns out that we didnt, Yates said. [But] they took it. Hopefully this will prove a point, just like it did on that car at Texas. Yates was refering to the #20 Home Depot Chevy that NASCAR impounded from Joe Gibb Racing after the car failed to meet offset specifications in the rear decklid area. The confiscation netted Gibbs no financial fine, as was the case with the motor RYR lost to NASCAR.( Ford Racing )(5-30-2003)
