Green to Officate Opening:

Owensboro native and Busch Series driver David Green will officiate the gala grand opening of the Owensboro Museum of Science and Historys new Speedzeum on Wednesday, June 25th from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Part of the Owensboro-Daviess County Motorsports Festival, the opening culminates a three-year effort by many local leaders and racers. The Speedzeum celebrates the rich racing heritage of the Owensboro-Daviess County region, covering everything from Soapbox Derby to local dirt track auto racing to NASCAR, motorcycle racing to hydroplane boats. With six active NASCAR drivers and countless crew members in service in NASCARs various racing circuits, Owensboro claims one of the highest levels of motorsports participation of any city in the country. The Speedzeum demonstrates and celebrates this connection, beginning in the early 20th century and following the developments right up through present day, featuring displays of racing vehicles, audio/visual presentations and interactive displays, including a full-scale NASCAR simulator. David Green is one of the O Boys having grown up in and around Owensboro and honing his driving skills on local tracks such as the 3/8-mile Kentucky Motor Speedway in Whitesville, KY. Currently driving the NASCAR Busch Series #37 Timber Wolf Pontiac for Central Citys Brewco Motorsports, Green, the 1994 NASCAR Busch Series Champion, is well on his way to another championship. Davids career highlights include five wins, 19 poles, 52 top five and 99 top ten finishes in his 253 race Busch Series career. Green will also be signing autographs at Owensboro, KYs Towne Square Mall on Thursday, June 26th for the Driver/Sponsor Fan Fest. This event will also feature a large collection of race cars, motorcycles, go-carts, remote control cars, sports cars and trucks from various series. The Owensboro-Daviess Co. Motorsports Festival, in its third year, has 38 events planned over the 16-day Festival, June 20th through July 6th.(David Green Site)(6-25-2003)
