UPDATE let’s clarify this: Recently when Andy Belmont’s sponsor’s name [Verizon] started popping up in numerous rumors regarding their future within the sport of auto racing, he wasn’t happy. Talk had the sponsor leaving and moving to Busch, minus his team. “I saw all that and I got pretty upset about it. I went straight to the top at Verizon. The president of Verizon responded to me and said ‘somebody is jerking your chain, we are looking at no other opportunities and focus on your job.'” Belmont’s deal, run directly under Verizon’s parent company [as Verizon 1-800 USE-THE-VZ], has nothing to do with Verizon Wireless, so if the wireless logo finds its way into NASCAR, don’t be surprised.(ARCA Racing)(7-2-2003)
