Chuck Hossfeld got under second-place John Blewett III and leader Todd Szegedy in turn 1 on the final lap to win the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series New England 100. The race was red-flagged on lap 98 after Rick Fuller hit the wall in turn 1. The roof was removed to extricate the Auburn, Mass., driver. NASCAR official Mike Zizzo said Fuller was awake and alert while being evaluated at the infield medical center. He was transported by ambulance to Concord Hospital.(Hartford Courant)(7-19-2003)
UPDATE: Rick Fuller, 42, of Auburn, Mass., the Featherlite Modified Series driver who was knocked unconscious after his Turn 1 wall crash in Friday’s New England 100, remained hospitalized in Concord with a concussion, according to NASCAR spokesman Mike Zizzo.(Boston Globe)
UPDATE 2: hearing Fuller had been released from the Hospital this morning – he has a concussion, and he was supposedly cleared him to race this weekend at Adirondack.(7-20-2003)
