Ashton Lewis, Jr. and the Team Marines NASCAR Busch Series racing team will pause this weekend to reflect on the 60th anniversary of one of America’s most historic moments. On February 23, 1945 the famous photograph of five determined Marines and one Sailor raising the American flag on a hilltop on Iwo Jima. The flag raising came after the first week of battle on Iwo Jima during World War II. The famed picture has become synonymous with the Marine Corps’ image. Commemorations of the milestone have taken place across America this week.
