Kertus Davis said his father, Johnny, will be forced to close the doors on the family-owned Davis Motorsports team at the end of the season because “we’re way in debt.” “We don’t want to start off the season in debt next year because we started off the season this year in debt,” Davis said July 29. “He’s fixing to be 51 years old in October and has no retirement. It’s just me, my father and one other full-time employee. We’re working day and night just to be here.”(SceneDaily.com)(8-2-2006)
UPDATE: In a phone call Monday morning, Kertus Davis said that he in no way meant to imply that that the family-owned team was going to “close the doors at the end of the season”. Johnny Davis commented: “We have no intention of closing down this operation. We have worked hard and invested heavily in the Busch Series. But, we will not start 2007 as we did in ’06. Sponsorship is the key. We are a team ready to make a big splash”. Johnny further stated: “I’m preparing to make a major announcement in the next few days certainly by Bristol.”(Johnny Davis Motorsports PR)(8-8-2006)
