After an emotional and action-filled month of February, David Gilliland is ready to unplug from the NASCAR world and go play in the sand. The driver of the #34 Taco Bell/TMone Ford for Front Row Motorsports will head to the sand dunes of Glamis, Calif., for a few days of relaxation and recreation before rejoining the Sprint Cup Series in Las Vegas, Nev., later this week. Gilliland is among a handful of NASCAR drivers who will escape this week for some downtime – and playtime – to the remote Southern California desert community of Glamis, where visitors ride four-wheelers and sand cars during the day and camp out at night. The native of nearby Riverside, Calif., spent more than 30 days in the dunes during the winter months of NASCAR’s off-season. Gilliland will trade his Taco Bell/TMone Ford Fusion for his Yamaha YFZ450 all-terrain vehicle and Elite 4-Seat Off-Road Car for the next few days.(Breaking Limits)(3-1-2011)
