2019:

  • Leavine Family Racing looking to expand in 2020: Leavine Family Racing could expand from a one-car team to a two-vehicle operation as soon as the 2020 season, team owner Bob Leavine told SportsMap.com in Houston on Wednesday. “Yes, we are working on expanding for 2020 right now,” Leavine said during a Q-and-A session.

2018:

  • BK Racing to be operated by trustee after team owner loses financial control: BK Racing will be operated by a trustee as team owner Ron Devine lost financial control of the NASCAR Cup Series team in bankruptcy court Wednesday morning. U.S. District Court Judge J. Craig Whitley appointed Matthew Smith of The Finley Group as the trustee.[More](3-28-2018)

2017:

  • Ganassi ‘concerned’ when Larson races sprint cars: Chip Ganassi said he would be happy if Kyle Larson, who won his second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race Sunday, decided he no longer wanted to race sprint cars. The dangers of sprint car racing were further illustrated Saturday when veteran and former NASCAR, ARCA and IndyCar driver Dave Steele died in a crash at Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, Fla.[More](3-28-2017)

2015:

  • Larson taken to hospital Saturday after fainting UPDATE: #42-Kyle Larson fainted toward the end of an autograph session at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday and had to be taken to a local hospital for evaluation. A Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates official told Alex Cavanna of FOX Sports that Larson was “being checked out at a local hospital. He was awake and alert on the way to the hospital.” The Ganassi official added that the team believes he will be fine, although doctors were still completing their evaluation of him at the time the statement was made. The official also said that “at the moment,” the team has “no reason” to believe Larson won’t be in the #42 Ganassi Chevrolet for Sunday’s STP 500 at Martinsville.(FoxSports)(3-28-2015)
    UPDATE NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said Larson will need to have “medical clearance from the attending physician” to race in Sunday’s STP 500.(USA Today)(3-28-2015)
  • Logano wins Truck race at Martinsville: #29-Joey Logano won the Kroger 250 at the Martinsville Speedway on Saturday after taking the lead following a final restart with 2 laps to go. The yellow waved after contact between #88- Matt Crafton and #00-Cole Custer. #88-Crafton went on to finish second followed by: #4-Erik Jones, #98-Johnny Sauter, #19-Tyler Reddick, #51-Daniel Suarez, #31-James Buescher, #05-John Wes Townley, #25-Matt Tifft, and #54-Justin Boston. There were 9 caution flags for 61 laps and 14 lead changes among 5 leaders.
    Logano started the race from the pole and led 150 of the event’s 258 laps.
    With the win, he became the 26th driver to win a race in all three of NASCAR’s national series.(3-28-2015)

2014:

  • Night race for New Hampshire? In response to a question on Twitter, New Hampshire Motor Speedway General Manager Jerry Gappens tweeted Thursday evening, Hey @DaleJr @Greenie9374, @nhms is working w/ @NASCAR & @NASCARonNBC on possibility of night racing for 2015. #NewEngland fans would love it.(3-28-2014)

2012:

  • Bruton Smith say changes will be made at Bristol: After more than a week of studying requested fan input, Bruton Smith, Chairman and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, announced he has ordered the go-ahead to make changes to the track surface at Bristol Motor Speedway. “The race fans have spoken,” Smith said. “We had input that included a wide range of opinions. But the majority we heard from said they wanted to see changes made. As a result, I have ordered the equipment and work will begin within the next two weeks to allow time to have everything ready for August.” Smith said an announcement regarding the scope of the work will be made soon. “The question we wanted to answer as quickly as possible was ‘Is something going to be done?’ Smith said. “The answer to that is ‘yes.’ We will have the details in two weeks as to what that ‘something’ is.(BMS)(3-28-2012)

2008:

  • Biffle 90% sure he’ll stay at Roush UPDATE: #16-Greg Biffle is in his contract year — is deal with Roush 2008 16mmm Michigan2Fenway Racing is up at the end of the season. He’s got something to prove, not only to everybody who thought he would never make the Chase again, but also to team owner Jack Roush. He’s said that he feels there’s a “90 percent” chance he will re-sign, but there’s little doubt that the better he does on the track, the more money he’s likely to make off of it.(Sports Illustrated)(3-28-2008)
    UPDATE: Greg Biffle on Friday stated his intent to sign a contract extension with Roush-Fenway Racing, saying he is “90%” sure he will do so. “We’re really just in the fine-tune negotiations [stage],” Biffle said. “I think we’re coming along fairly well. It hasn’t been a top priority, but we’ve been communicating back and forth about what we’d like to see in a contract — appearances and the way it’s structured and different things. And I feel pretty confident we’re going to be able to reach middle ground [at Roush Fenway]. I would say 90%.” The hope, Biffle said, is to complete the agreement by midseason. “That would be preferable,” Biffle said. “So closing down to the chase, and the championship, we have the thing ironed out.” Biffle said other teams have mentioned casual interest in securing his driving services, and he’s spoken with them — but only in passing. 2006:

  • Jeff Gordon Fined by NASCAR as a Result of Bristol Infraction: NASCAR announced today that Jeff Gordon, driver of the #24 DuPont Chevrolet, has been fined $10,000 as a result of his involvement in an altercation on pit road [he pushed #17-Matt Kenseth] after the completion of Sunday’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Gordon has also been placed on probation until Aug. 30, 2006. Gordon was in violation of Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup rule book.(NASCAR PR)(3-28-2006)

1999:

  • 17dewalt LowesKenseth to Cup, confirmed: Jack Roush confirmed in the postrace BGN news conference that BGN driver Matt Kenseth will drive a Mark Martin Racing car in Cup in 2000. Roush said that DeWalt Tools would like to come along with Kenseth. Roush will provide the team engines and chassis, but will be a separate team from the Roush stable. Kenseth will also drive a Roush Racing car in five Cup races in 1999(NOL/AP)(3-27-1999)
  • Team Yellow Trouble: NASCAR may fine Team Yellow, the #19 Yellow Freight Chvy of Mike Skinner, for drilling holes in the chassis of its cars. The holes were exposed when driver Mike Skinner crashed during opening day practice at Texas on Thursday. NASCAR officials then checked the backup car and also found the unacceptable body changes(Times-Dispatch)(3-28-1999)
