- Most of the Pepsi 400 weekend at Daytona Beach, Fla., will take place under the lights, Daytona International Speedway officials announced Monday. Qualifying for the July 4 Pepsi 400 has been rescheduled to Thursday, July 2 at 8:15pm Qualifying was originally scheduled for the afternoon of July 3. Just as the race was moved from its traditional Saturday morning start to Saturday night at the request of fans, so has the Bud Pole Qualifying. Also, 1 1/2 hours of `drafting’ practice will be held under the lights July 3. A three-hour practice for the 40th Pepsi 400 will begin at 3 p.m. July 2.(That’s Racin’)(4-13-98)

- Indianapolis is bidding for the 2000 Republican National Convention. If Indianapolis wins the bid, the political powers may have to ask Tony George to move the Brickyard date (in 2000), as the two events would be at the same time.(StockCarFans)(4-13-98)

Also Mike Dillon and Dave Marcis tested the Dale Earnhardt #3 Chevy. Mark Gibson, Micky Gibbs and David Bonnett also help test Elliott Fords. - Brian France has been promoted to senior vice president for NASCAR. The son of NASCAR president Bill France Jr. previously served as the vice president of marketing and communications since 1993.
