- Atwood back racing: Nashville’s Casey Atwood, once billed as NASCAR’s next Jeff Gordon, is back where he started over a decade ago: running Saturday night fender-benders at Fairgrounds Speedway. “I haven’t been in a race car for about three years now, and I’ve missed it,” says Atwood, 31, who will buckle in for Saturday night’s season opener at the 54-year-old track. “I’ve always loved racing, and especially enjoyed it at the Fairgrounds. I’ve had a lot of success there, and it’ll be good to get back.” Atwood will drive a car provided by two-time Daytona 500 champion Sterling Marlin, who will also be in the lineup. Atwood is married and the father of two daughters, six and four. He spends his time “piddling around” and occasionally helping his father Terry with his electronics company. The last time he was in a race car was in 2009 when he helped set up Nationwide cars for some Cup double-dippers at now-closed Nashville Superspeedway.(RacinToday)(4-13-2012)
- Jani-King Joins Richard Petty Motorsports: Jani-King, the world’s largest commercial cleaning franchise company with more than 12,000 franchise owners, is the newest partner to join Richard Petty Motorsports and driver Aric Almirola on the famed #43 Ford. The company and its crowned logo will be on Almirola’s Ford Fusion as an associate sponsor for the rest of the 2012 Sprint Cup Series season and serve as a Co-Primary sponsor on the #43 for the June 3 race at Dover International Speedway. Launched by an entrepreneurial college student in 1969, the Texas-based Jani-King now services tens of thousands of business clients in 15 countries and has consistently been ranked at the top of the commercial cleaning industry. “I admire Jani-King for the way it began – just one guy working hard while in college – and growing it into a worldwide business,” said team owner Richard Petty. “We’re proud to have another ‘King’ working with us and looking forward to them joining our family. I think I’ll wear the cowboy hat and let them wear the crown.” The partnership, that was initiated by Medallion Sports Media, in cooperation with Richard Petty Motorsports, begins this weekend at Texas with branding on the #43 Ford.(Breaking Limits for Richard Petty Motorsports)(4-13-2012)
- Patrick has no backup plan for Darlington qualifying: How concerned is #10-Danica Patrick about the possibility of having to qualify on speed at Darlington? Not enough to have considered a backup plan if the #10 Chevy she shares with David Reutimann remains outside the top 35 in owner points. Patrick is scheduled to run 10 Cup races this season. Her first was the Daytona 500, where she fell victim to a crash on Lap 2. Her second scheduled race is the May 12 Southern 500 at Darlington. When Patrick drives the Cup car, Stewart-Haas Racing prepares it. When Reutimann drives the #10 Chevy, the car is fielded by Tommy Baldwin Racing, the idea being that Reutimann will keep the car in the top 35 in owner points and thereby exempt from qualifying on speed. On April 1 at Martinsville, however, the car fell one position outside the top 35 despite Reutimann’s controversial efforts to nurse a wounded car to the finish — controversial because the car lost power, stopped on the frontstretch and caused a caution that changed the complexion of the race. Because the #10 is currently only one point behind the #83 BK Racing Toyota driven by Landon Cassill, Patrick isn’t particularly concerned about her car’s owner points position — for now. “I feel pretty confident in the car and Tommy Baldwin to get it in the top 35,” Patrick said Thursday before practice for Friday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. “They’re a great group, and they’re working really hard. We haven’t talked about a backup plan, but there’s always that backup plan that, if you have to qualify, that’s what you do.”(NASCAR Wire Service)(4-13-2012)

UPDATE: Grant Enfinger will be in the truck at Rockingham. Driver at Kansas is “TBD” at this time. JR is scheduled to be back in the truck at Charlotte. Team Owner Stacy Compton and JR’s management team are both fully committed to having JR be in the #60 truck as much as possible this season, but there were some holes to fill with sponsorship to make that happen. Unfortunately, we were unable to sell sponsorship for Rockingham and Kansas, which have resulted in JR being sidelined until Charlotte, most likely.(Turn One Racing PR)(4-13-2012) - Greenfield picks up two new sponsors for Rockingham: Clay Greenfield Motorsports picks up two new sponsors for the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series marks its return to the legendary Rockingham Speedway.
