  • What’s up with Ron Hornaday? Ron Hornaday is currently not competing in NASCAR, but the four-time champion appears to be as busy as ever. And racing remains his focus. Hornaday, winner of a series-best 51 victories in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series, is more hands-on these days, building dirt Modifieds for grandson Slater Blickensderfer and teammate Billy Workman Jr. as well as several other competitors. There are those who kick up the dust and ride the cushion on local tracks in the Carolinas, Kentucky, Indiana and various other venues who put their faith in a Hornaday-built entry. Given their success, it seems that trust has been well placed. A recent Saturday night outing at Fayetteville Motor Speedway indicated as much — the top three in the Open Wheel Modified division were built by Hornaday Race Cars. “Back to building dirt cars and having fun again,” Hornaday said recently from his race shop, surrounded by cars in various states of progress. “Back to doing a little bit of everything, I guess.” It’s been two years since Hornaday made his last start in the Truck Series, running what turned out to be an abbreviated schedule with the former Turner Scott Motorsports group and NTS Motorsports. He has competed in all three of NASCAR’s national series — Sprint Cup, XFINITY as well at Trucks. Last year, he made five attempts with The Motorsports Group in Sprint Cup, but qualified for only one race. See full article at NASCAR.com.(4-13-2016)
  • Goodyear Bristol Tire Notes/Facts: Teams in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series will run the same Goodyear tire set-up at Bristol this week . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires that these teams have run at Bristol since last April . . . Bristol is the only track at which NASCAR teams are scheduled to run either of these two tire codes . . . unlike on most NASCAR ovals one mile or less in length, on which teams generally do not run inner liners in their tires, teams are required to run liners in their right-side tires only at Bristol . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire (Goodyear Racing), see tire pressures, codes, set limits on the Bristol Race Info page
  • Texas post-race warnings: NASCAR has issued written warnings the teams of #01-Ryan Preece, #5-Chase Elliott, and #7-Justin Allgaier following the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. All three teams failed laser inspection twice during pre-race inspection.(4-13-2016)
  • Different look for Erik Jones at Bristol: For the seventh race of the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series, teams head to the high-banked short track of Bristol Motor Speedway. Making his third series start at the track, Erik Jones and the #20 GameStop Performance Designed Products Camry team unload looking for their first win of the 2016 season. In his previous two starts at the track, Jones has one pole, one top-five finish and two top-10 finishes. PDP is the No. 1 video game accessory company in North America. • Rockingham Speedway scheduled for public auction: A year after the deadline for a court-ordered sale, the legendary Rockingham Speedway is going on the auction block. According a notice of foreclosure sale filed in Richmond County Superior Court on April 7, the property will be sold “to the highest bidder for cash” at a public auction May 5. The notice states the sale will include “the real property, together with all rights, privileges and appurtenances thereto…and the personal property described in the deed of trust.” It goes on to state that the property will be sold subject to any and all matters superior to the lien of the deed of trust, including: superior mortgages, deeds of trust, liens and assessments, if any; the lien of unpaid ad valorem taxes; valid and enforceable easements and restrictions of record; and matters which would be revealed by a current and accurate survey of the property. “The property will be sold ‘as is, where is,’ the notice continues. “Neither the substitute trustee nor the holder of the debt secured by the deed of trust, nor their respective officers, directors, attorneys, employees, agents or authorized representatives, make any representation or warranty relating to the title or any physical, environmental, health or safety conditions existing in, on, at or relating to the property, and any and all responsibilities or liabilities arising out of or any way relating to any such conditions expressly are disclaimed.” Raleigh attorney Louis E. Wooten Jr. was named substitute trustee in February, according to records filed with the Richmond County Register of Deeds. The sale will open at the Richmond County Courthouse at 11 a.m., and will be held open for 10 days for upset bids as required by law. Kenneth Robinette, chairman of the Richmond County Board of Commissioners, speculated that the foreclosure could be an attempt to “get rid of some partners” and move forward in bringing racing back to the track.(Richmond County Daily Journal)(4-13-2016)
