Waddell Wilson has seen and experienced many, many things in his NASCAR career, and a countless number of those memories involve fellow NASCAR Hall of Fame member Benny Parsons.
There was the time he won the 1973 Winston Cup championship with Parsons and a car that had been torn to shreds in an accident. It took help from other teams — and a bit of outright larceny — to piece the mangled machine back together enough to finish the race and claim enough points to best Cale Yarborough for the title.
A couple of seasons later, Wilson and Parsons won the 1975 Daytona 500 with an engine that had been patched together almost as much as their championship-winning car. Yet there it was … in victory lane at the end of the day. Would it pass inspection? That was the question.
This is Waddell Wilson’s story.
