NASCAR added several updates to the rule book on Friday. Among them was a new restriction to prohibit drivers from using their hands to manipulate airflow during qualifying.
Rule 8.3.2
K. As determined by NASCAR, once a vehicle exits pit road during a Qualifying attempt, the driver’s hands may not be used to redirect air in any manner including but not limited to, touching the window net, blocking air from entering the cockpit, redirecting air from the window, etc. Non-compliance will result in loss of Qualifying time.
The rule addresses a growing superspeedway qualifying practice seen at Daytona, Talladega, and Atlanta, and follows heightened scrutiny after Joey Logano was fined $100,000 in 2024 for wearing a webbed glove to alter airflow during qualifying.
