Hendrick has confirmed that he will continue to operate four teams.
The team has full season sponsorship from Ally and they will have a lot of input on the driver.
One scenario mentioned is Hendrick moving Alex Bowman to the #48 and closing the #88 team (or bringing on a funded driver for the #88). The odds of Hendrick shrinking to three teams in minimal due to manufacturer contracts.
If Hendrick has take a funded driver on to close a sponsorship gap for next season, then this ride become a bidding war to see who takes over. In that scenario, the driver would likely end up driving the #88.
Just about every driver with a contact ending (and some without) has been speculated to be interested in the ride.
