#98-Jake Garcia played the spoiler in the first race of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Chase and won the UNOH 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The win is the first of his career after 94 starts.
#5-Bayley Currey transitioned from TRICON Garage truck chief to driver and finished an impressive second. #52-Stewart Friesen finished third. #16-Justin Haley scored his and RAM’s highest finish of the season in fourth, and 16-year-old #77-Tristan McKee closed out the top-five.
The top seed for the Chase, #34-Layne Riggs, started from the pole and paced 135 laps winning the opening stages, but trouble began under caution following stage two. Riggs pit from the lead, but lost five spots on exit. Under the exchange on pitroad, Garcia inherited the lead for the first time.
Riggs then pit under green on lap 160 for a loose wheel and fell two laps down. Later in the race, contact forced him to pit yet again. He ended the race 32nd.
As for Garcia, he led a total of 104 laps. He lost the lead temporarily following a restart on lap 220 after #52-Friesen made a gutsy three-wide move from the high side. Garcia reclaimed the lead 10 laps later and maintained through the final 20 laps of the race.
#17-Gio Ruggiero was the highest finishing Chase driver in sixth. #62-William Sawalich, #11-Kaden Honeycutt, #88-Ty Majeski, and #9-Grant Enfinger complete the top-10.
There were five lead changes among four drivers and four caution flags for 38 yellow flag laps.
