  • Kenny Wallace to run Cup race? UPDATE: hearing Kenny Wallace and Jay Robinson Racing [#28 in Nationwide Series] has a Sprint Cup car and could run the Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway in May.(4-9-2009)
UDPATE: Kenny Wallace denied published reports that he will run the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington in May for his Nationwide team owner, Jay Robinson Racing. Speaking on Sirius NASCAR Radio’s Sirius Speedway, Wallace said, “We do have a Cup car, an old James Finch car. We’re concerned that the car may be too old and heavy, though. It’s out of date, not a new generation car. It’s not as light as it needs to be. The difference between this car and some of the newer ones may be only 15 or 30 pounds, but that’s a lot. We definitely want to run a Cup race or two, but I’m not sure when we’ll attempt it. It definitely won’t be Darlington. We don’t have the manpower to build a top-flight car right now.”(Sirius Speedway)(4-11-2009)
  • Morgan-McClure Motorsports set to return at Talladega: Morgan-McClure Motorsports is back. The team will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26 and will attempt to make the Aaron’s 499 with driver Eric McClure, sources said Friday at Nashville Superspeedway. The team will again field the #4 Chevy, with sponsorship from Hefty brand. If the Talladega race weekend goes well, a source said the team could attempt to make more races later in the season.(Scene Daily)(4-11-2009)
  • Pit road shakeups for Roush? Could there be a few shakeups in the pit crews at Roush Fenway Racing? Officials haven’t said anything, but co-owner Jack Roush spent a lot of time in meetings this past week trying to figure out why his teams are having so much trouble on pit road. That usually means changes for the man known as “Cat in the Hat.” Carl Edwards went from first to 11th after a crucial mistake on his final pit stop with about 30 laps remaining in Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway. Greg Biffle believes pit road mistakes, at least one by him, has cost him a shot at two wins this season. Even Matt Kenseth had problems at Texas. He was second coming onto pit road on lap 252, but left in 15th after a lug nut problem on the right rear tire. Nobody is publicly blaming anybody as Kyle Busch did in a Nationwide Series race last month when a pit road mistake cost him a victory. But there are concerns.(ESPN Insider)(4-10-2009)
UPDATE: Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards said small changes made this week to his Sprint Cup pit crew were designed to help his #99 team be able to compete for the Cup title this year. Edwards said Friday at Nashville Superspeedway that one crew member was replaced, and a team spokesman said it was front tire changer Corey Quick.(Scene Daily)(4-11-2009)
  • Could Gordon catch Pearson in wins? Now that Jeff Gordon has proved he still has some victories left in him, fans will start to ask whether he can catch David Pearson for #2 on NASCAR’s list for career victories. #24-Jeff Gordon has won 82 times, but he has another 24 burnouts ahead of him if he’s going to pass David Pearson for the second most Cup victories. It’s a virtual certainty that Gordon will blow by the three drivers between him and Pearson — Cale Yarborough (83 wins), Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip (84 wins each). But catching Pearson is a much tougher task for Gordon, who turns 38 on Aug. 4. Gordon would need to average almost five victories a season over the next five years. We could say he needs to average only 2.4 wins a season over the next 10 years, but Gordon has said repeatedly that he has no intention of racing into his late 40s. Gordon averaged three wins a year over the previous four seasons. If he keeps that pace, a reasonable expectation, he would tie Pearson in the 2016 season, when Gordon would be 45. Find one more victory somewhere along the way and he would own the #2 spot all alone.(ESPN.com)(4-11-2009)

  • Kate and Kacey Coppola to perform national anthem at Phoenix: Big Machine Records recording artists Kate and Kacey Coppola will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to the Subway Fresh Fit 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, April 18. Now residents of Nashville after a shared childhood in Denver, the identical twins first charmed country music listeners with their fresh harmonies and engaging spirit by reaching the semi-final round on CMT’s reality contest, “Can You Duet?” Named as artists “to watch in 2009” by Country Weekly and featured in People Magazine’s Country Special, Kate and Kacey will tour with country superstar Kenny Chesney for 11 shows this summer.
