- NASCAR opposed to use of bleeder valves: In other forms of motorsport, including short track and dirt racing, bleeder valves [for tires] are commonplace and allowed. That has been the number one question in the aftermath of the tire tampering penalty handed down to Ryan Newman, Richard Childress Racing and the #31 Sprint Cup Series team last week. This had prompted numerous drivers to suggest that NASCAR would be better off allowing bleeder valves as well. Jeff Gordon has been perhaps the most vocal proponent of bleeder valves in the Sprint Cup garage. Sprint Cup Series director Richard Buck [says] the technology is too inconsistent for use in NASCAR.
“In regard to the tire bleeders, we work our partner Goodyear and with our teams and at this point, I personally don’t know if there are any bleeders out there at the level that these cars would require,” Buck told Popular Speed on Friday afternoon. “I know there are other forms of motorsports like dirt car racing and sprint car racing that I’ve seen before and (those valves) were very touchy and non-repeatable. If they fail, it was a catastrophic failure of the system, so I don’t think there is a system that is out there today.” Furthermore, Buck is content without having bleeder valves because it’s the same and fair for everyone in the garage. “It allows teams to adjust on the tires,” Buck continued. “It allows for drivers to provide feedback on the tires. A driver can change the handling based on how he changes the load of the tire pressure. “So there still a lot of human interaction in working with the tires.”(Popular Speed)(4-11-2015) - Gordon wants NASCAR to eliminate pit road timing lines: Friday #24-Jeff Gordon was asked about the increased number of penalties issued to teams this season:
Jeff Gordon: “I think the camera system speaks for itself. It’s black & white if you want to put it that way. When things roll out of the box or guys leave over the wall too soon or you drive through too many boxes, it’s going to bust you. And so it’s made all of us have to be that much cleaner and do our jobs that much better and pay more attention to more things than we used to. That didn’t have anything to do with what I did last week [when he got caught for speeding late in the race at Martinsville]. That was just us trying to take advantage of speed lines. I think that’s the next step. We’ve got to get rid of these speed lines. It doesn’t make any sense. The speed limit is the speed limit. You should never be able to break the speed limit. You should carry the speed limit all the way down pit road. What we do is find pit stalls to try to get around that. So we’re ramping up and slowing down and that’s what got us in Martinsville. We were just too aggressive with it.”(Team Chevy Racing)(4-11-2015) - NASCAR 15 game to be released in May: Retailer GameStop and developer Dusenberry Martin Racing announced Friday that professional racing game NASCAR 15 is in development and will launch in just over a month, on May 22, 2015. The disc-based Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be released exclusively at GameStop, though digital versions versions will be available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Meanwhile, a digital PC version will launch on Steam. NASCAR 15 is the first entry in the series since the NASCAR video game rights switched hands from Eutechnyx to Dusenberry Martin Racing, a subsidiary of DMi Games. It’s described as more of an update than a new game, and will cost just $20. It features new 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cut Series paint schemes, and also includes a career mode and numerous teams and tracks, as well as “enhanced online mulitplayer and leagues.” (GameSpot)(4-11-2015)
- Military family receives year of groceries from Eckrich: On the set of “Good Morning Texas,” Army Sergeant Robert Morgan and his wife Ashley were honored by Eckrich, the makers of naturally hardwood smoked sausage and delimeats, after being surprised with a special invitation to be VIP guests of theirs and the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports race team during this Saturday’s race in Ft. Eckrich then presented the family with a gift of free groceries for one year at Kroger. The groceries will help the Morgans who are parents of two young children. Eckrich, a brand of Smithfield Foods, will host Sergeant Morgan and his wife Saturday at the race track with an insider look at the No. 43 Eckrich race team.
