Kyle Larson kisses the bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway: Only two months after competing in the Indianapolis 500, Kyle Larson returned to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon to claim the trophy in one of the NASCAR Cup Series’ crown jewel events, the 30th Anniversary Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG – holding off the field in a dramatic double overtime finish. Larson led only eight of the race’s 167 laps in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet – seven of them coming in the overtime periods when he needed them most – ultimately holding off the race polesitter, 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick and Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney on the white flag lap. Pole winner #45-Tyler Reddick finished 2nd followed by #12-Ryan Blaney, #20-Christopher Bell, #23-Bubba Wallace, #38-Todd Gilliland, #2-Austin Cindric, #99-Daniel Suarez, #10-Noah Gragson, and #9-Chase Elliott.
The race finished after two overtime attempts. #6-Keselowski led late in the race but ran out of fuel on the first Overtime restart. #5-Larson was lined up in the second row and took the lead before the caution came out setting up the second overtime attempt. He help off #45-Tyler Reddick until the caution came back out on the final lap, after an accident by #41-Preece. They race ended under caution.
Stage 1 was won by #11-Denny Hamlin. Stage 2 was won by #23-Bubba Wallace.
There were 18 lead changes among 13 drivers and 10 cautions for 32 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 1119.77mph.
