#38-Zane Smith won the season-opening NextEra Energy 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway Friday night in overtime. The win is his first at Daytona and the fourth of his career.
The caution flag waved just feet away from the white flag on lap 99 for wreck that included nearly 20 trucks. Instead of the race ending, they were shown the red for track cleanup and lined up for an overtime restart. #98-Chistian Eckes was scored as the leader. Once the restart waved, #38-Smith lined up on the outside and with the help of a push from #75-Parker Kligerman, moved passed Eckes to take over the lead draft in the low lane, and held it for the win.
#99-Ben Rhodes, the defending race winner and series champion, finished second, #98-Eckes was third, followed by: #15-Tanner Gray, #75-Kligerman, #02-Jesse Little, pole-sitter #66-Ty Majeski, #20-Danny Bohn, #42-Carson Hocevar, and #25-Matt DiBenedetto in the top-10.
Stage 1 was won by #4-John Hunter Nemechek. In fact, Nemechek dominated most of the race, also winning Stage 2 and leading a race high 50 laps. He was involved in the lap 99 crash.
There were 18 lead changes among 10 drivers and seven cautions for 27 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 129.146mph.
