#20-Christopher Bell won the Shriners Children’s 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway. The win is his 1st win of the year, 1st at Phoenix and 7th career win.
#17-Chris Buescher finished 2nd followed by #54-Ty Gibbs, #6-Brad Keselowski, #12-Ryan Blaney, #1-Ross Chastain, #19-Martin Truex, Jr., #34-Michael McDowell, #14-Chase Briscoe, and #45-Tyler Reddick.
Pole winner #11-Denny Hamlin led just 13 laps on the day before finishing 11th. He was battling Reddick for the lead on lap 214 when he spun to bring out the caution. That resulted in a mix of pit strategies and he could never get back to the front. Bell inherited the lead with 41 laps remaining when Truex had to pit for tires after he did not pit under the final caution. Bell pulled away from the field to win by more than 5 seconds.
Stage 1 was won by #45-Tyler Reddick. Stage 2 was won by #20-Christopher Bell.
There were 10 lead changes among 6 drivers and 6 cautions for 40 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 103.568mph.

Checkered flag: Bell wins it.  The rest of the top 10: Buescher, Gibbs, Keselowski, Blaney, Chastain, Truex, Jr., McDowell, Briscoe, and Reddick.
Lap 308 – 5 to go. Bell still in control.
Lap 304 – #17-Buescher moves to second place, but 6.6 seconds off the lead.
Lap 303 – 10 to go. Bell by 6.4 seconds.
Lap 300 – Bell continues to extend his lead.  It’s now 5.4 seconds over Gibbs.
Lap 293 – 20 laps to go.  Bell still in total control.  Without a caution, the race is his to lose.  He leads Ty Gibbs by 4.8 seconds.  Third place Buescher is 6.1 seconds back.
Lap 283 – 30 laps remaining.  Bell still with a 4 second lead over Gibbs.
Lap 277 – Bell leads, the Gibbs (-3.3 seconds back), Buescher (-5.3), Chastain (-5.9), and Keselowski (-6.6).
Lap 272 – Truex pits from the lead.  Bell now out front with Gibbs 2.2 seconds back.  41 laps remaining.
Lap 270 – No changes up front. With Truex expected to pit for tires, the race could come down to Bell and Gibbs.  They are separated by 1.7 seconds.
Lap 261 – Truex continues to lead.  Bell is second, 5 seconds back, then Gibbs, Chastain, and Buescher.
Lap 253 – Ty Gibbs is now in 2nd, but 4+ seconds behind Truex. Truex should need to pit for tires before the end.
Lap 245 – Just 67 laps remaining.  Truex leads Preece by 3.4 seconds.  Gibbs, Chastain and Buescher round out the top 5.  Tyler Reddick, who was leading at the last caution, is stuck in 12th.
Lap 233 – NASCAR confirms that #7-LaJoie, #22-Logano, and #16-Kraus are all done for the day.
Lap 223 – #43-Jones got into the wall.  No caution.
Lap 221 – Green back out with 92 laps to go.
Lap 218 – A mix of pit strategies. Many pit again. Gibbs off pit road first. Truex stays out and assumes the lead. He’s followed by Preece, Gilliland, Buescher, and Chastain.
Lap 215 – #11-Hamlin spins trying to avoid contact with Reddick while battling for the lead, but doesn’t hit anything and continues. Free pass is #8-Busch.
Lap 213 – Back to green. 100 laps to go. Reddick, Hamlin, Blaney, Byron, Truex, Gragson, Keselowski, Elliott, Bell and Gibbs the top 10.
Lap 206 – Caution out.  Spin by #21-Logano after contact from #42-Nemechek. #7-LaJoie and #71-Smith make contact with him. Logano is done for the day and will finish 34th.
Lap 204 – Reddick retakes the lead from Hamlin on the restart. #1-Chastain made contact with the outside wall but continues at speed.
Lap 203 – Back to green. Hamlin leads Reddick.
Lap 197 – Caution out.  Backstretch spin by #8-Busch. He restarts the car and gets going. #7-LaJoie is the free pass.
Lap 195 – Back to green with 118 laps remaining in the race.
Lap 191 – Leaders pit. Four tires and fuel all around.  Off pit road: #11-Hamlin, #45-Reddick, #24-Byron, #9-Elliott, #12-Blaney. Bell had a slow stop. He comes off 10th. #21-Burton too fast on pit road.
Lap 186 – Caution out for the end of stage 2.  #20-Bell wins it. He’s followed by #45-Reddick, #11-Hamlin, #24-Byron, #19-Truex, Jr., #12-Blaney, #9-Elliott, #10-Gragson, #6-Keselowski, and #17-Buescher. #41-Preece, in 20th, is the free pass.
Lap 182 – 4 laps left in stage 2.  #20-Bell has taken the lead from Reddick.

Lap 171 – 15 laps left in stage 2. Reddick continues to lead. Bell is battling Hamlin for 2nd.
Lap 163 – Reddick continues to lead Hamlin by .9 second.  Third place Bell is now 1.7 seconds back and closing.
Lap 152 – 34 laps remaining in stage 2 and the race is nearly halfway complete. #45-Reddick continues to lead. #11-Hamlin is 1.1 second back.  Then #20-Bell, #24-Byron, and #38-Gilliland (who still hasn’t pitted).
Lap 137 – Reddick quickly out to a lead of .7 second after getting out front.
Lap 135 – #45-Reddick takes the lead as he and Hamlin get around Gilliland.
Lap 132 – Gilliland remains the leader, but Hamlin is about closing.  Reddick is just behind Hamlin and looking to pass both of them.
Lap  122 – The top 5 are #38-Gilliland, #8-Busch, #47-Stenhouse, #77-Hocevar, and #16-Kraus.  They have not pitted.  #11-Hamlin is 6th and will retake the lead once they pit.
Lap 118 – Hamlin pits from the lead. He had a close call with #99-Suarez, who was just coming out of his pit stall.
Lap 115 – Green flag pit stops are beginning.
Lap 96 – Hamlin still leads Reddick.  Elliott, Byron, and Gibbs follow.
Lap 83 – Hamlin has pulled out to a 1.7 seconds lead over Reddick.
Lap 70 – Green flag for the start of the second stage.  This stage ends after lap 185.
Lap 68 – #5-Kyle Larson made a second pit stop due to a tire issue and will restart 33rd. #77-Hocevar pitted again for a loose wheel and will restart 34th.
Lap 65 – All lead lap cars hit pit road. Off pit road: Hamlin, Reddick, Byron, Elliott, Gibbs, Blaney, Briscoe, Larson, Keselowski, Jones.

Lap 58 – Reddick takes the lead from Gibbs with 3 laps left in stage 1.
Lap 51 – 10 laps left in stage 1.  Ty Gibbs still leads, but #45-Reddick now up to second with #11-Hamlin 3rd.  #43-Jones has dropped to 4th.
Lap 36 – 25 laps remaining in stage 1. Ty Gibbs leads Erik Jones by .7 second.  34 drivers are on the lead lap.  #3-Dillon is 3 laps down.
Lap 25 – #54-Gibbs continues to lead, with the top 5 unchanged since the restart.
Lap 12 – Back to green. Top 5 are #54-Gibbs, #43-Jones, #11-Hamlin, #45-Reddick, and #9-Elliott. #2-Cindric is out of the race and will finish 36th.
Lap 7 – Caution is out for an accident involving #2-Cindric, #3-Dillon, and #16-Kraus.  Looks like Kraus got loose off the corner and was hit by Dillon and Cindric.
