Trevor Bayne doing well but doesn’t want an MS campaign to support his racing:

#21- Trevor Bayne doesn’t mind telling his story about racing with multiple sclerosis, but he’s not interested in having that define him. Bayne, who won the 2011 Daytona 500 but then missed part of that season because of fatigue and double vision, announced in November that he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He has not had any symptoms in the offseason and is ready for the 2014 season, the Roush Fenway Racing driver said Monday during the Sprint Media Tour. Bayne, who finished sixth in the Nationwide Series standings in 2013, will run the full Nationwide season while also competing in at least a dozen Cup races for Wood Brothers Racing. While Roush Fenway landed AdvoCare as a sponsor for Bayne’s Nationwide car, he obviously could run more Cup races with more sponsorship. For now, Bayne isn’t interested in doing any campaigns that center around his multiple sclerosis. ‘I don’t want to be a racecar driver because I have a campaign behind him – I want to earn my spot here,’ said Bayne, who often talks about his deep religious faith. ‘That doesn’t really interest me at this point, but I definitely want to be a spokesperson for anybody going through anything tough and see that with Jesus, you can overcome anything. That’s my message. It’s not just about MS.’ Bayne said he trains three hours a day, which includes running and swimming as well as biking. He has not had to alter his training program. ‘Healthwise I feel great. ‘¦ With no symptoms, there’s no worries,’ Bayne said. ‘If I got down the road in six months and I noticed something, I would definitely see a doctor about it. At this point, I haven’t had to do any of that. I do go back for checkups regularly and get their input because it would be not so smart not to do that. So far, it’s all been positive. I can go hard in training and push myself way harder out of the car than I do in the car.’(Sporting News)(1-30-2014)
