  • Kenseth not considering retirement: #20-Matt Kenseth is just a year younger than #24-Jeff Gordon, who has already said he’ll retire at the end of this season. The 43-year-old former champion won’t use Gordon’s exit as a reason to consider his own future in NASCAR. He’s got no plans to get out of the race car anytime soon and hopes his pole-winning run at Bristol Motor Speedway will lead to the end of a 51-race winless streak. Asked if Gordon’s decision has led him to ponder retirement, Kenseth said he hasn’t given the subject any thought. “I feel as good as I did 10 years ago, and I’d like to say that I do as good or better job behind the wheel than I did then,” said Kenseth, who starts first Sunday. “Jeff got to that point where he knew that it was time to go do something else, and it doesn’t seem like he has any doubts about that. The fortunate few who can keep jobs and keep running, and don’t just fade out because they can’t get a competitive job anymore, can decide when that happens. I hope I’m fortunate enough to be one of those guys.”(Associated Press)(4-19-2015)
  • McDowell’s sponsor makes donation in honor of Steve Byrnes: The NASCAR community often has a way of coming together in times of need unlike any other sport out there. That is evident this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway where the track, teams and drivers alike are honoring FOX Sports’ own Steve Byrnes. However, Thrivent Financial, sponsor on Michael McDowell’s #95 Levine Family Racing Ford has taken their support of Byrnes to the next level. Inspired by the powerful NASCAR community, Thrivent Financial will donate $9,500 to Stand Up To Cancer in honor of Byrnes. Greg Stacey, director of content marketing for Thrivent Financial, said the organization is proud to be part of the NASCAR community during times like this and hopes the donation will bring both awareness and help to all of those impacted by cancer. For McDowell, it is special to have a sponsor that is willing to go above and beyond to help out a member of the NASCAR community.(FoxSports)(4-19-2015)

  • Johanna Long, Affarano Motorsports to make first attempt of 2015 at Richmond: Affarano Motorsports announced that Johanna Long would be getting her first career start of NASCAR’s Xfinity Series 2015 season at the ToyotaCare 250 race at Richmond International Raceway taking place on Friday, April 24th driving the unsponsored #03 Chevy Camaro of Affarano Motorsports. “When I first approached Johanna, about driving for us, we sat down and discussed what tracks we felt she could best perform at and Richmond was one of the ones at the top of the list.” Team and car owner Mike Affarano stated in our telephone interview. “In an ideal situation, Johanna would’ve opened the season in Daytona this year and we’d be running for points; however, we were unable to secure the sponsorship that we needed to accomplish that, so we’ve been forced to be more selective of which races to compete in.” When pressed about the direction of sponsorship and the expected competitiveness for Johanna Long in an unsponsored car, Mr. Affarano was quite frank. “We are actively seeking full or partial sponsorship for the remainder of this year and beyond. I won’t lie, we need it if we want to continue to compete and perform at our best. We felt that it was really important to get Johanna at track that she is familiar and comfortable with and can provide a good showing at; hopefully [being at the track] will help us find that sponsor.”(Affarano Motorsports PR)(4-19-2015)
