  • Another Crew Chief Change? UPDATE yep: hearing Doug Richert and the #32 Tide team have parted ways
    UPDATE: PPI Motorsports and Doug Richert, crew chief for the #32 Tide Ford driven by Scott Pruett, have mutually agreed to part ways. Richert has opted to pursue other opportunities while PPI Motorsports focuses on restructuring the current management team for the Tide Winston Cup crew. Joe Garone, current program director for PPI Motorsports’ NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch teams and former crew chief for the #94 McDonald’s Ford, will temporarily fulfill crew chief duties on the #32 Tide Ford and ultimately take a more active role in the actual competition management of PPIM’s Tide Winston Cup team. Additional overall management support comes in the form of increased leadership roles for Roy McCauley, engineer for the #32 Tide Ford, and Pat Smith, crew chief for PPI Motorsports’ #97 McDonald’s Ford Busch car(PPI Motorsports PR)(5-2-2000)
  • New #90 Crew Chief: Hills Bros Coffee Racing Team owner Junie Donlavey named Dean Johnson as crew chief for the #90 Fords driven by Ed Berrier in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Johnson’s first event will be the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond this Saturday.   • Wal-Mart to Cup? Wal-mart might be the next new sponsor on the Winston Cup tour and could have a logo on Mark Martin’s quarter-panel next season, according to NASCAR sources.   • Winston West UPDATE 3: #55-Ken Schrader took the pole and #50-Johnny Benson the outside pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Winston West Series event at California Speedway(RacingWest)(4-28-2000)
    UPDATE: flip-flop the drivers and you have the first two finishers, Johnny Benson won the Pontiac Grand Prix 200 at California Speedway Saturday with Ken Schrader finishing 2nd.   • Buckshot stays in a Chevy: Buckshot Jones will again pilot a Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Richmond instead of a Pontiac Grand Prix. The Hardee’s 250 will mark the second consecutive race in a Chevrolet for Jones. The team finished 23rd at California last week with the new #00-Monte Carlo(IMG Motorsports)(5-2-2000)
  • Parker and Amick busy weekend: NASCAR Busch Series regulars Hank Parker Jr. and Lyndon Amick are set for double duty this weekend. The pair will compete in Friday evening’s Hardy’s 250 at Richmond International Raceway, and then fly to Miami to race in Saturday’s three-hour Motorola Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the Grand-Am Nextel 250 weekend.
